Sacramental Preparation

First Reconciliation and First Communion

Children preparing for the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist must attend Religious Education or Catholic School regularly and actively participate in a preparation program.  In addition, parents attend a meeting prior to each Sacrament to help lead their children through the final preparation. All St. Margaret of York 2nd graders are prepared for 1st Communion, and 4th graders are prepared for 1st penance.

Baptism

You must be a registered parishioner or a Catholic living within the parish boundaries to request the sacrament for your child. Parents must attend our Baptism catechesis class (third Wednesday of each month, 7:30 – 9pm) and obtain the correct forms and information.  Baptisms are to be scheduled with the pastor and are normally done at Mass in the presence of the community since Baptism initiates us into the Christian community.  The class explains the necessity of Baptism and the role of the parents as the primary teachers of their children in the ways of faith.

Reconciliation

Confessions are heard on a regular basis every Saturday afternoon from 3:00 - 4:00 pm in the Reconciliation Chapel.

Confirmation

Usually this Sacrament is celebrated when the child is in 8th grade. Along with regular attendance and classroom participation, candidates are expected to complete a set of community service projects. In addition there are candidate/sponsor meetings and a retreat. Contact the Religious Education Office at (513) 683-7100, ext. 206.  If you are an adult please also contact the Director of Religious and Adult Education at (513) 683-7100, ext. 206.

Please contact our parish office a minimum of six months prior to the desired wedding date.NOTE: Weddings are not normally scheduled during Advent, Christmas holidays or Lent. Participation in a program of Marriage Preparation is also required.

Anointing of the Sick

The Sacrament of the Sick is a healing Sacrament of the Church. Anyone who is sick or elderly and in need of physical or emotional healing can come to our Healing Mass which is celebrated on the second Monday of each month at 7pm Within this Mass we will communally celebrate the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick. If you wish to be anointed and are not able to come to this Mass, please call the Parish Office at (513) 683-7100 and let them know that you would like one of our priests to make a home/hospital visit.

Those who would like to receive the Sacrament before a hospital stay or surgery are invited to call the parish office to make arrangements. The Sacrament is also available to those who may be near death. Please inform the parish office when a friend or relative from the parish enters or leaves the hospital.

Ministry to the Sick and Shut-Ins

St. Margaret of York has a comprehensive process of caring for our elderly and shut-ins through the help of extraordinary lay ministers of the Eucharist. By calling the parish office, our sick and shut-ins are able to receive Communion once a week and are visited by a priest upon request for other sacramental needs. If you know a sick or shut-in Catholic within our parish boundaries who would like to receive Communion, please call the parish office and notify us. Likewise, if you know of a parishioner who will go into the hospital, please help us by calling the parish office. It is possible to call after hours and leave a message on our secretary’s voice mail (513) 683-7100 ext. 208.
