Extraordinary Eucharistic Ministers
August 2009
Lead Host
- Lead Host will be Host #8 - positioned in front of the altar in the center.
- Responsible for the bringing the ciborium from the tabernacle
- Please sit on the East side of the Church and exit via the back and side aisle
- Leave at the Our Father
- Single genuflection in front of the tabernacle
- Close the tabernacle doors
- Bring the ciborium up to the altar and give to the deacon or priest to place on the altar.
- Take position to receive communion behind the altar on the left side
Cups #1 & #2
- Approach the altar immediately after the sign of peace
- Stand halfway between the ambo and the altar in the center and right position
- The first to receive the cup distributes to the other two unless the Deacon chooses to distribute to all three.
Servers
- Will take the ciborium from the priest or deacon and place it on the side altar
- Move to the front of the altar and form a line to receive communion
Remaining Eucharistic Ministers
- After the sign of peace, line up to receive communion behind the servers
- Hosts on the right; Cups on the left
- Please get in line before the elevation of the Body and Blood
- The Lead Host and Cups 1 & 2 after receiving communion will distribute to the servers and other Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion
- When you have received, proceed up to the altar where the priest or Deacon will give you the plate or cup for distribution
- Lead Host and Cups - after distributing to the other ministers turn and face the altar until all are ministers are ready to distribute
Distribution
- Always be reverent
- Try to smile
- If your line is finished - look to assist in other areas
- If your plate is empty - only go to the priest for additional hosts or follow the final procedure (see below)
- If your cup is empty - follow the final procedure

Final Procedure Hosts
- Take remaining Blessed Sacrament to ciborium at the side altar
- If the ciborium is mistakenly placed on the credence table - take it to the side altar
- Once you have emptied the remaining Blessed Sacrament take the plate into the sacristy but DO NOT STACK the plates on top of one another
- Lead Host - returns ciborium to the tabernacle
- Process the ciborium in a reverent but not raised position
- Place ciborium into the tabernacle, genuflect, and close doors to the tabernacle
Final Procedure Cups
- Return directly to the sacristy
- Consume any remaining Precious Blood
- If it is too much to consume, wait until another minister comes who can assist you to consume the Precious Blood which remains
- DO NOT pour the Precious Blood out
- DO NOT put the purificator into the cup
- Place the purificator on top of the cup
Final Notes
- Dress Code - please dress appropriately for the ministry
(always dress appropriately in case you are called upon to minister)
- Prepare yourself for the ministry - Sacrament of Reconciliation will be available on Saturday afternoons from 3pm to 4pm; Also, Eucharistic Exposition is every Saturday from 8:30 - 2:30.
